George J. Giokas, MD, is the director of Palliative Care at The Community Hospice in Rensselaer, New York. He is a member of the state-wide medical orders for life-sustaining treatment (MOLST) implementation team and sees patients as director of the Inpatient Palliative Care Consult Service at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York.

Dr. Giokas will explain the differences between comfort care, hospice care, primary and specialized palliative care, identify patient populations who likely would benefit from primary palliative care and discuss ways to support decision makers for patients with critical illness.
